Blessing
of the Rain
“May the
blessing of God's soft rain be on you,
falling
gently on your head, refreshing your soul
with the
sweetness of little flowers newly blooming.
May the
strength of the winds of Heaven bless you,
carrying
the rain to wash your spirit clean
sparkling
after in the sunlight.
May the
blessing of God's earth be on you
and as you
walk the roads,
may you
always have a kind word
for all
you meet.”
Irish
Blessing
Everyone loves Irish
blessings—they conjure up leprechaun antics and shamrocks in bloom.
Especially now, we need blessings that remind us of the good things
happening all around us, of the world and its beauty, and of the
dependability of the seasons. This time of year is the rainy season
in the Deep South. Right now, the rain is cold and there is much
complaining. But watching the news last night of the latest
nor'easter to befall New England made me glad I live here. I've
experienced more than one of those impressive storms, and even in
summer, they are no joke. Bless those who are digging out, and bless
the poor linemen trying to restore power to all the besieged and
freezing people.
Irish blessings are a
good way to adjust one's attitude, which is what I'm attempting to do
with myself. Instead of looking at rain as a problem, see it as a
means of washing one's spirit clean and refreshing one's soul. That
feels good—if you're not in the midst of a nor'easter. I wish you a
day filled with hope and peace, with the rain soft upon your
shoulders, and the sunshine just behind it to light your way.
In the Spirit,
Jane
