Refueling
“What
drains your spirit drains your body. What fuels your spirit fuels
your body.”
Caroline
Myss (Anatomy of the Spirit)
This
time of year in the deep South, the days are absolutely beautiful.
Temperatures in the 70's, sunny and dry. The leaves are beginning to
turn, and sunlight is taking on the characteristic clarity of autumn. It
is a good time to be outside, soaking up that light and allowing beauty to fuel the spirit.
It's
quieter, too. Birds are sleeping later because darkness lingers.
Sitting in the silence, I hear the sounds of my own body/mind at
work—the continuous high-wire hum of my nervous system, and the
sighing rhythm of air moving in and out of my lungs. If I am very
still and focused, I can touch each area of my body with my mind and
offer it a blessing.
Perhaps
these notions sound weird, but being aware of the energies
of your own body is important. If you spend a few minutes each day in
an environment that energizes you, that “fuels your spirit,” your
body/mind will be healthier. If you do a daily check-in, information
will be available to you from every part of your body. Each part is a
living system—the brain, only one link in a vast communication
grid. The “mind” is not confined to the chamber of the skull.
Today,
give some thought to what drains your spirit, and what fuels your
spirit—what energizes you, what leaves you feeling
mentally/emotionally exhausted. Taking care of your spirit is crucial
to the overall health of your body.
In
the Spirit,
Jane
