Divine
Feminine
“We
need Goddess consciousness to reveal earth’s holiness. Divine feminine imagery
opens up the notion that the earth is the body of the Divine, and when that
happens, the Divine cannot be contained solely in a book, church, dogma,
liturgy, theological system, or transcendent spirituality. The earth is no
longer a mere backdrop until we get to heaven, something secondary and
expendable. Matter becomes inspirited; it breathes divinity. Earth comes alive
and sacred. And we find ourselves alive in the midst of her and forever
altered.”

I
attended a Zoom lecture Monday night about the Divine feminine. Jungian Analyst,
Nancy Qualls, used the Grail myth about the wounded Fisher King and Percival,
to talk about the eternal feminine principle. In the Bible, she is called
Sophia, or wisdom. She exists within us all as the energy of Eros, or relatedness.
Nancy described the divine feminine as being the principle that connects us to
each other and to the world’s soul; as the breath and power of God; conversive
with God and sent by God as the Holy Spirit. The divine feminine is peaceable,
gentle, and approaches humanity without partiality. She draws us onward. Feminine energy is what
is so lacking in our world today, which is why we are at each other’s throats
and why there is such an atmosphere of fear and hostility.
Our indigenous
people refer to the divine feminine as Mother Earth. She enlivens the earth; she
is in the earth and of the earth and, since we are creatures of the earth, she
is also within us. Without the feminine energy and wisdom provided by the Great
Mother, we would not exist; could not feed ourselves, and could not procreate. Without
her, we and the earth are barren. She provides the wisdom of creation. Without feminine
wisdom and balance, we will be forever at war with each other, and in our
waring, we will exhaust the resources of this planet.
It is
past time for us to regain our sense of connectedness. It is time for us to call
upon the divine feminine energy within to remind us that we are one people
living on one planet; each of us is equally sacred to God and to the Great
Mother. We must not allow the forces of division and fear to pull us apart and
set fire to our beautiful home. The earth is the embodied soul of the divine
feminine and our job is to defend and protect her, but also to allow her light
to shine through us into this fractured world. May it be so.
In
the Spirit,
Jane
