“It’s
time to stop worrying about what can go wrong and get excited about what can go
right.”

I’m
late writing today because I was searching a friend’s house for a medical file
that included his advanced directives. My friend fell down some steps over the weekend and is
now desperately injured in an ICU in another state. His son is on the way there,
but since we are still in the middle of a pandemic, only one person can be in
the hospital with a patient. This friend has survived heart disease and cancer,
but a fall has brought him to his knees. It is a reminder of just how tenuous
and unpredictable life can be, and how important it is to count each moment as precious.
When we wake up in the morning, regardless of how young or old, healthy, or sick
we are, we have no idea whether this day will be simply one of many or our last.
This is
not a message to make you afraid. It is only stating the obvious. Don’t spend
your sweet life doing anything but rejoicing. Whatever happened yesterday or
last week or fifty years ago, is over and gone. Whatever the future holds,
unknowable. It is time to simply give thanks for life and breath, for family
and friends, and let go of all regrets or resentments. Don’t contaminate today
with yesterday’s poison, or with anxious thoughts about tomorrow. Live today.
Allow joy into your heart and mind today. Bless yourself and everyone you meet.
Your life is a gift—your only responsibility is to live it to the best of your
ability.
In
the Spirit,
Jane
