How to Transform the World

Christ Consciousness

How could you believe that a Creator could favor one man over another? How could you possibly believe that God's love is sanctioned—one is approved of, one is not? You are all perfect creations; you are all deeply loved, and the realization of this, truthfully, will and would transform this planet in a second if it were realized in its fullness...”
Paul Selig (I Am the Word)

One of the things taught by Paul Selig and by Matthew Fox and other leading spiritual figures is that Christ Consciousness does not belong exclusively to Christians. Christ Consciousness is an archetypal energy pattern that has manifested in many human beings over time, including, but not exclusive to, Jesus. In fact, it manifests in each of us in moments of great compassion and understanding. To believe that the Creator prefers and is solely the patron of one religion or one tribe of human beings is simply arrogant.

In saying that each of us is perfect and deeply loved, Selig and others, are demonstrating the compassion that exemplifies Christ Consciousness—the same consciousness demonstrated by Jesus when he said, “Your sins are forgiven, your faith has made you whole,” and by Gandhi, when he blessed his assassin in the moment of his death, and by Pope John-Paul when he went to the jail cell of his would-be killer and forgave him. It was exemplified by Martin Luther King, Jr. when he gave the “I have a dream” speech in Washington. The Hindu spiritual master, Sai Baba, was a gifted mystical teacher and healer. Many of us have exemplified Christ Consciousness when, in a moment of grace, we have been compassionate enough to change someone's life. When we strive to see the world though the lens of Christ Consciousness, we realize that all people are loved and all people are equal and that we are all related. We stop judging, and stop persecuting and stop being ignorant of the preciousness of each one.

How do you think the world would be different if we all understood this? If we lived by it? Just for today, can we practice Christ Consciousness and see how it feels to be a beloved child of God, and to allow that love to flow through us and out to the world without exception.
