Fire
in the Soul
“I
am flesh and I am bone
Rise
up ting ting like glitter and gold
I’ve
got fire in my soul
Rise
up ting ting like glitter…”
Barnes
Courtney (refrain: “Glitter and Gold”)
I have
been rewriting some posts from this blog for a class I’m taking. One of them
has to do with the parallels between the dark matter that binds the cosmos together,
and the collagen fibers that hold our bodies together. Both are ubiquitous and
both can be characterized as web-like. Our original people have a saying: “As
above, so below; as within, so without.” All things in the created order
reflect one another, whether in the macro-cosmic sphere, or in the micro-cellular.
Even inside our cells there is a web-like network of protein fibers called a
cytoskeleton which holds the cell’s shape, organizes its other organelles, and supports
its locomotion. We are knitted together within and connected to everything else
in the universe.
Given
that, what does it mean that we small human organisms here on the blue planet are so
at odds with one another? Is it akin to an immune system gone awry? Or perhaps
like cancer cells invading and overtaking organs? Whatever it is, it is not evidence of health.
We are flesh and bone, and we are susceptible to all the ills that carries with
it, but we are also cosmic and connected with every other part of creation.
What do you think is causing us to attack one another like cancer cells, and
what does it mean that this hate-filled environment has produced a virus that
is literally attacking us and becoming ever more virulent? As above, so below.
As within, so without.
It is
crucial that we begin to think in these terms. We are here to expand our
consciousness to include all that is, and not just to serve our petty
self-interests. We are more important than we think, but not in the ways that
we imagine ourselves to be. We are one link in the chain, and like every other
link, we must remain healthy and intact, or the whole chain disintegrates.
We are
just as capable of resolving our differences as we are at deepening our divide.
It is a matter of will—of choosing to be in relationship rather than at war. We
are flesh and we are bone, but we also have fire in our souls. That fire can
burn us up, or it can provide the warmth of human relationship. Fire has many
uses—from transformation to destruction. It is our choice as to how our fire is
used. Are you stoked for transformation today?
In
the Spirit,
Jane
