Turbo-Charged Prayers

Prayer Joined

Maybe we should let God be the judge of the size requirements of an acceptable prayer. Our own ideas are bound to be all out of proportion, and might hinder a worthy prayer from being released.”
Margaret Dulaney (The Anonymous Ones; Winter 2017-18, p. 88)

While I was sick and confronting surgery, many people prayed for me. People I don't even know—centering prayer groups prayed, Catholic Masses were said, lots of prayer groups added me to their lists, and many individuals also prayed. I know that those prayers made a difference—they impacted the success of the surgery, the rate of recovery, and the outcome. Many people around the world pray for things big and small—and when all these prayers are joined together, they form an energetic net around the planet that is strong and decisive. Right now, those of us who pray need to be praying for a change of heart regarding earth's health, and the human impact on it. It may seem like a huge, impossible task, but when we join all our prayers together they become even stronger than the problem.

It is imperative that we stop denying the reality of climate change and begin doing everything we can to turn it around. Prayer is one way of doing that. Each of us must assess our contribution to the problem and remedy that, but our prayers, combined with the thousands of others who pray for enlightened leadership and change in human destructiveness, turbo-charge the sacred energy. There are so many things to pray about these days, that we could spend every minute of everyday praying, and thankfully, some people actually do.

Don't be afraid to pray for everything, anything at all—big or small—the mountainous global problems, and the small, isolated personal ones. Every prayer is a little energy packet going out to the universe and being amplified by the prayers of others. Pray for yourself, for loved ones, for our leaders, for the courage to confront our problems, for everyone you know who's facing a difficulty, or in the midst of one, for whatever your personal unmet needs may be, and for everything that is living on this planet. Call upon your ancestors and friends on the other side of the veil to intervene, by adding their prayers to yours. Don't be afraid. Just pray. God-by-any-name is listening.
