It's
All Practice
“Trials
are but lessons that you failed to learn, presented once again. So
where you made a faulty choice before, you can now make a better one,
and thus escape all pain that what you chose before has brought to
you.”
“A
Course in Miracles”
Do
you ever get the feeling that the gods are dealing you the same card
over and over? I do. There are certain themes in our lives that we
are here to work out. We are given a scenario in which to “practice”
and if correctly resolved, we move on. If our response is less than
correct, we (1) pay the karmic price for that mistake, and (2) get
another try.
Here's
a typical modern scenario: Man meets woman (usually on a dating
website)—she is beautiful and inviting and seems like the perfect
mate. Man marries woman quickly so as not to let her slip through the
net. A few years pass, and the “hot” becomes tepid, and the
beauty becomes ordinary, and what seemed like perfect is now anything
but. Man divorces woman, and meets another and the same thing
happens. Cycles of marriage and divorce, love and chaos, repeat. In
western developed countries, the average length of a marriage is 13.6
years; in America, it is 8 years.
We
can make better choices. We can move beyond the superficial aspects
our decisions are frequently based upon, and take time to ponder the
realities of living with our choices. When things get rough, we can
look at our role in making them difficult, instead of blaming others.
We can take the time we need to learn from our mistakes instead of jumping right back into the game. We can consciously acknowledge that the cycle
repeats for the express purpose of allowing us to choose differently.
If we're tired of the same card being dealt, we may want to choose a
different response.
In
the Spirit,
Jane
