Odyssey
“The
shoe that fits one person pinches another; there is no recipe for
living that suits all cases.”
Carl
Jung
When
one lives a solitary life, having a house guest can be an eye-opening
glimpse into how the rest of the world functions. Suddenly, routine
is broken, accommodations made; one talks more, goes more and eats
more in those few days than in the three months prior to, or after, the
occasion. One becomes immersed in the trials and tribulations,
triumphs and joys of persons that, until this moment, were
completely unknown. It's truly quite exhausting and, at the same
time, invigorating.
One
of those important light-bulb moments comes when you realize that you don't
want to live another person's life. Harboring envy for the way
someone else conducts their days is draining. And judging the
lifestyle of another is equally unproductive. Each of us is here to
live the life that suits us. Some of us choose to dive into the
fastest current in the river and swim with the big fish. Others
prefer to paddle the gentle eddies, and some simply want to observe
from the shoreline. All are valid ways of living. All produce
rewards.
My
heart-rate was up with all that house-guest stimulation; now it's
beginning to return to normal. I shall have long, lovely hours to
ponder all that crammed itself into one four-day odyssey. Life is so
interesting, isn't it?
In
the Spirit,
Jane
