Individuation
“To
find out what is truly individual in ourselves, profound reflection
is needed; and suddenly we realize how uncommonly difficult the
discovery of individuality is.” C. G. Jung
I
am often asked the question of why I write this blog every day—more
clearly, HOW do I get up every day and write this blog. I'll tell you
what I know, because some of it is mystery even to me. I do it
because I have to. It is my way of checking in with myself to see
what is cooking within. Most of the time, I write from my own
experience, assuming that, being a human being and all, someone else
will be having the same experience, or will wrestle with the same
dilemmas along the way. The older I get the more I realize both how
much we have in common, and how uniquely different we are from one
another.
Another
reason for writing daily is that I believe humankind must become
conscious of its life now, as soon as possible, if we are to continue
to reside on a hospitable planet in communion with one another. We
are now connected by way of the internet as we have never been
before; at the same time, we are more divided by ideology and creed
than we have never been. We must become ever more conscious of just
how much is at stake if we do not learn to understand one another
enough to live peacefully side by side even with our differences. And
to do that, we must first understand ourselves. What truly motivates
us? Not the first answer that comes to mind, but the one we find
after peeling away all the layers of ego and self-serving that cover
the kernel of honesty.
I
write to find my own truth, to increase my own consciousness, so
that I can bring that to the small sphere of community in which I
exist. If it helps you to do the same then I will have served my
purpose here on the blue planet.
In
the Spirit,
Jane
