Revolution
of Love
“We
wage, in our way, a revolution based on love. We seek to replace an
old, repressive order, not so much politically or socially, but
within our minds where it lives and works. We try to hate no one, for
we recognize that hatred itself is the enemy. We hope to change the
world into a place of grace and love.”
Marianne
Williamson (Illuminata)
Marianne
Williamson wrote these words in the early 1990's, before the world
went crazy. Before the world trade center went down in ash and smoke,
before we unleashed the power of our military on Iraq and
Afghanistan, and before the Arab Spring. When you survey the world
today, it's hard to see the revolution of love taking place, isn't
it?
But,
I believe that this spiritual revolution is still in progress. In
fact, I believe that all the insanity we see today, both at home and
abroad, is a response to it. When the world is on the precipice of
radical change, the forces that would keep that change from
happening, rise up in a violent and aggressive way. The old systems
that want to continue to control the world, and especially the role
of women in the world, crack down on anything that challenges their
authority. Think about the Renaissance, for example. During the Dark
Ages, women were burned and hanged and drowned for being witches;
i.e. having knowledge of herbal medicine, midwifery, and rites and
rituals for healing. Just like the girl who was shot by the Taliban
for championing education for girls, or the medical student who was
gang-raped and murdered in India, these women had challenged the
patriarchal authority of their day by the possession of knowledge
that might free them, and others, from domination. Killing women did
not stop the Renaissance, and it will not stop the spiritual
revolution in progress right now.
These
times of transition are difficult and demoralizing. It's hard to
believe that there's a light at the end of the tunnel when our news
is so dark. Terrorism is designed to wear people down and frighten
them into believing that it is more powerful; but terrorism never
wins in the long run. As our President would say, 'it's on the wrong
side of history'. In the end, the light of love and acceptance will
always achieve the victory. In the mean time we must keep that light
burning. We must arm ourselves with wisdom, and keep our prayers
strong and continuous to invoke the power of love that protects us.
We can change the world to a place of grace and hope by lighting the fire of love in our own hearts
and allowing its warmth to spread.
In
the spirit,
Jane

Thank you for this reminder of where we are. Living in transitional times it difficult and the old systems of power do indeed try to maintain their control.
"We can change the world to a place of grace and hope by lighting the fire of love in our own hearts and allowing its warmth to spread." So many voices out there seem to have forgotten the basic human redeeming qualities of grace, hope, and love.
