Become a Source

Positive Energy

“Every individual whom you interact with affects the flow of energy in your body. Some flow with positivity, spreading love and compassion, making you happy. Others flow with venom, harming you.”
Neelam Saxena Chandra

I had an interesting conversation yesterday with Ladonna and Dejuana, some friends of mine. Dejuana has an unusual gift of being able to create songs in the moment—she seems to simply open her mouth and songs flow out. Ladonna was my first meditation and yoga teacher—so they are on the “good energy wavelength.” We discussed how energy, when it flows through you unhindered, also flows in your larger life. And, conversely, when your chi energy is blocked, it becomes stagnant and creates problems. Blockages happen for various reasons—including fear-based emotions such as resentment, jealousy, the desire for retribution, and hatred. When negative energy is trapped, it creates illness in the body, but it also blocks the flow of positive happenings in your life. In other words, when you carry a lot of negativity, bad things happen inside of you and outside of you.

We are living in negative times. There is a lot of free-floating anxiety and anger just in the atmosphere that touches each of us. That energy both comes from and creates the climate of unrest, the divisive politics, the pandemic, the heat, and the wildfires—there’s no shortage of sources. Negativity sparks around us like the lightening that ignited the wildfires in the west. It is contagious and, like the virus, easily spreads from one person to another. It is wise to be aware of that and shield yourself as much as you can. Consciousness is key.

If you know that someone in your life is caught up in the negativity of the moment, and that you are susceptible to it too, then limit the time you interact with them. And, conversely, if there are people in your life who stimulate the flow of positive energy in you, spend more time with them. I’m not suggesting that you cut people out of your life, especially since some of them are people you love and normally get along with. We are going through rough times here—hateful, divisive times. We need to do what we can to slow the spread of negative energy, and that may mean making changes in your social contacts and limiting time with people who trigger you.

A good mantra for now is, “The flow of negativity ends here. The flow of positive energy begins with me.” Allow yourself to breathe in golden light and breathe out positivity. Become the source of love and compassion for someone else.
