Our Paths Have Joined

Walk Together

“In scripture they talk about walking into the unknown, walking into the desert. There’s something about this time—as this is the first time, honestly, in the history of humanity where all of us are on the same journey. Everyone. In every nation. We are all taking the same journey.”

Caroline Myss (“All of Us Are on the Same Journey,” Video, March 19, 2020)

If you aren’t acquainted with Caroline Myss, you can go to her website or to her Facebook page and listen to a series of videos she’s posted in the last week about our response to the coronavirus. Myss is a medical intuitive, author of numerous books about what causes illness in the body and how to heal it. Anatomy of the Spirit is probably her best known. She sees this time as unique because for the first time at least in recorded human history, we are all on the same page. She says that we have known in our heart of hearts that something was coming, but we didn’t know what form it would take until now—all the free floating anxiety that has had us in its grip was, in fact, our intuitive understanding that something was coming. And now it’s here.

Now that the “dominos” have fallen, we are the ones who hold the key to weaving life back together—not our leaders, for they represent all manner of ideologies and abilities, and they are just flawed human beings overwhelmed by this pandemic, too. The solution is ours to find. And to find it, we must pull together, not apart. Because this is not about ideologies and tribalism—this is about life and how we will live it or will not live it.

We have known for a long time now that the way we were living, as though there were no consequences to eternal consumption, was unsustainable. We are destroying our ecosystem, our own habitat, every bit as much as the habitats of all manner of other creature—our bats, our bees, our elephants, our amphibians. We have been in denial about our role in all of this because it has been more comfortable to look the other way. Some of us were getting very rich by looking the other way, and some of us were getting very poor because of it. And that, alone, is one example of why it is unsustainable. We’ve read this story of the wide divide between rich and poor several times before, and it always has a tragic ending.

So now, the consequences are here in the form of a pandemic. A tiny, invisible virus has shown us the truth of our power. We are devastated by the fact that this is not something we can control. There’s not enough toilet paper or hand sanitizer in the world to keep us safe. We must look it in the eye and claim it as our own and stop blaming each other, our leaders, and China.

We’re here now. We’re all in the same boat. As Caroline Myss says, “we’re all on the same journey.” We must and will sacrifice our indiscriminate carelessness and indifference and come together to face it or the boat we are in will surely sink. Grab an oar and let’s row together.

                                        In the Spirit,

                                        Jane
