There's a Clear Message Here

Believe in Life

“Believing in life means it’s okay to let go. We can trust where we’ve been. We can trust where we’re going. And we’re right where we need to be now. Believe in life.”

Melody Beattie (Journey to the Heart, p.167)

Right this moment you may be laughing. You may have read Melody Beattie’s lines above and thought, “Are you kidding me? How can that be so?” I don’t blame you. We’re in perilous times, but not for the first time. We’ve been here before, and we will be here again until humans wake up.

Read for instance the opening lines of Charles Dickens “A Tale of Two Cities” written in 1859:

“It was the best of all times, it was the worst of all times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way…”

Sounds familiar, right? Dickens was writing about the French Revolution which happened a century before that. We cycle around and here we are again. We will keep cycling around this best and worst of all times until we gain enough consciousness to figure it out. Each and every time we find ourselves here, it is for the same reason—inequality. The chasm between the rich and poor, the advantaged and the disadvantaged.

It is Life, it is Spirit, that keeps bringing us around to this place. We can trust that Life will do it again and again until we get the message. Spirit keeps giving us opportunities to right what is wrong. The question is whether we will stick with the cycle or perhaps wake up and see the light. Inequality leads to war, rebellion, and social upheaval. It always has, and it always will. Once again, it is up to us to choose.

                                                  In the Spirit,
