Jump!
Life is all about risks and it requires you to jump. Don’t be a person who has to look back and wonder what they would have or could have had…”
Redneck Girl
I was talking with a friend of mine at church yesterday. He is in a killing job in corporate America—one of those jobs that one day rewards your excellent work and the next day decides that you’re expendable. It’s like working in a wind factory; you never know which way it’s going to blow. I understand that these are hard times. I know jobs are more difficult to find nowadays, but sometimes you just have to cross your fingers, close your eyes, say a prayer and jump off the cliff. Figuratively speaking, of course.
I get just how cavalier this sounds, and if you’re a person with a family, mouths to feed, bodies to clothe, it may not be possible. But, even then, you can give due diligence to finding another way to earn a living. Clip coupons, apply for food-stamps, sell your furniture! There is nothing more killing to spirit than to spend eight hours or more every day at a job that is both mind dulling and abusive. Your life and your happiness are too precious for that.
Regret is one of the worst things life can dish out. If I’m going to feel regret, I’d rather feel it for making a courageous mistake than for serving up my soul, one feather at a time, to a miserable job. In the words of the Redneck Girl, “Mistakes are sometimes the best memories.” There are all kinds of ways to make a living, honey. And some of them are even fun!
In the spirit,
Jane
