Who are we kidding?

Reality Check

“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away.”
Philips K. Dick

“Reality is merely and illusion, albeit a very persistent one.”
Albert Einstein

In my dreams last night, my father was very much alive and quite talkative, which he never was. Several women whom I know to be beyond child-bearing were pregnant. One of them was joining the military and the other was still in her wedding gown! Sometimes I’m happy when I wake up because even in the dream I’m freaking out. This morning, I couldn’t get up fast enough. The reality of waking was sweet music to my ears.

Speaking of reality, anyone who doesn’t believe that our planet is heating up should spend several spring-time months in Alabama. We’ve already had two rounds of destructive tornados, the redbud trees are in full bloom and all the other trees are leafing out. It’s March 3, y’all! Even in the Deep South, it’s too hot too early. We’ll all be heading for Iceland by summer.

Today, I’m off to Columbiana, Shelby County’s lovely seat, where an Antiques and Collectibles Show will be conducted in Doc Handley’s barn—assuming it didn’t blow away in last nights severe storms. Life resumes after these giant blows as if it were the most normal thing in the world for F-4 tornadoes to ravage entire towns, kill and maim the citizens, and leave a path of destruction so absolute that the mind cannot comprehend it. Okay, maybe reality is not so sweet after all.

It is time to wake up and smell the coffee. Global warming is a reality whether we ‘believe in it’ or not. Now, we need to decide how we’re going to live in the face of it.

Blown away,
Jane
