Coincidences
and Synchronicities
In
every moment, the Universe is whispering to you. You are constantly surrounded
by signs, coincidences, and synchronicities, all aimed a propelling you in the
direction of your destiny.”

As I
sat in the seminar over the weekend, with speaker Jerry Wright, Jungian Analyst
and theologian, everything he said seemed like echoes of my own thoughts and
words. The topic was “A Mystical Path Less Traveled,” about his own
journey of faith and consciousness. He said, and I paraphrase, “I started in
the church, in the pulpit, then I found myself on the back porch of that church,
and then, even that porch fell through.” That is how one’s journey goes
sometimes. We start out as children in awe of everything; gradually we lose consciousness
of that awe, but it never really dies within us. We spend the second half of
life searching for the experience of wonder that animates us because it is our
soul’s connection to the divine Universe.
One of
the traits that separates mystical thinking from logical thinking is that we
see ordinary events as meaningful. The people with whom we choose to be, those
who move in and out of our lives, the jobs we hold, the groups we involve
ourselves with, our interactions with the various personalities of our children—all
are awesome to a mystical thinker. Finding meaning is a life-long pursuit. One
tool of that consciousness is being aware of synchronicities.
Carl
Jung defined synchronicity as: “A meaningful coincidence of two or more
events where something other than the probability of chance is involved.”
According to him, synchronicity is ever present for those who have eyes to see.
We’ve all experienced this. Think about the last time you thought about an old
friend, and suddenly, they popped up on Facebook. Or when you were between jobs
and worrying about the next month’s bills, and an unexpected check arrives in
the mail. The other day, my friend Dejuana (who lives in the twilight zone of
intuition), was traveling back from visiting her parents in Mississippi. She
stopped to buy a lottery card—she allowed intuition to show her which numbers
to choose, and which scratch-off tickets to buy. She pumped $25.00 worth of gas and her scratch tickets paid for that and put an equal amount into her pocket. She has an 80% success rate with the lottery.
Albert
Einstein said, “The intellect has little to do on the road to discovery.
There comes a leap in consciousness, call it intuition or whatever you will,
the solution comes to you, and you don’t know how or why.” Don’t underestimate
the synchronicities that fill your days. They are ever present and meaningful. In
fact, the more you expect them, the more they come and the clearer they are. Deepak
Chopra tells us, “When you live your life with an appreciation of
coincidences and their meanings, you connect with the underlying field of infinite
possibilities.” Keep your eyes wide open today—synchronicity is coming
toward you and you don’t want to miss it.
In
the Spirit,
Jane
