Refresh Your Spirit
“Love
makes your soul crawl out from its hiding place.”
Zora
Neale Hurston
I took
a three-day trip to the mountains because my soul needed to refresh. One of the
simplest ways to regain your equilibrium is to surround yourself with beauty
and with people you love. We have been through such a difficult time this past
couple of years; all of us are mentally and emotionally depleted, and universally
fatigued—not because we are working extra hard—but because we have experienced relentless stress. Our sympathetic nervous systems are begging for
a vacation—our souls, too.
For me,
there is no place like the Great Smokey Mountains to jump-start my energy and clear the cobwebs from my head. They are the essence of love for me—everything my senses
take in is music to my ears, delight to my eyes. This year, I witnessed spring
for a second time. The trees, just beginning to leaf out, the dogwoods, just opening
their blooms. Even though the air was cold, the scene brightened my heart.
I
wonder about you—where is the place, and who are the people, who awaken your
spirit and call your soul out from its hiding place? If you can’t physically go
there, at least close your eyes and see them. Call forth all their love and
beauty because it’s there within you, stored in memory. Perhaps your sacred
place is the beach, or the lake, or far away in a different country. Just taking
an imaginary trip will refresh your spirit.
Today
is a beautiful Sabbath and a perfect time to step away from work, and de-stress.
Do whatever you can to call your spirit back to you, give it some love, refreshment,
and rest. You’ll begin your work week in much better shape, I promise.
In
the Spirit,
Jane
