Synchronicity

Carl
Jung wrote a lot about what he called “synchronicity”: an instance in which two
(or more) things happen in close proximity to one another, that are seemingly unrelated,
but carry special meaning for the person to whom they happen. An example that all
of us experience is pondering ideas or internal questions about doing something
that changes our life—like changing careers, or moving to a new location—and then
having these ponderings reflected in our waking life—i.e. being offered a new job,
or receiving brochures in the mail for homes in our area of interest, or
running into a stranger or old friend in the grocery store who talks about
exactly what we have been thinking. Suddenly, a door opens to real possibilities
that we had only just imagined.
According
to Sarah Ban Breathnach, “We call it coincidence. Serendipity. Luck. Chance.
Fate. We call it everything, but what it really is: Grace. God.” Hints and
guesses, yes, but worthy of our attention, and all the more reason to be awake
in the present moment. Otherwise, we write these things off as “curious” rather
than acting on them.
When we pay attention and
then act on our intuitive guidance, we are in what the mystics call “alignment.”
When our interests and our soul’s purpose are in alignment, the whole universe
(God. Grace.) lines up behind us to make it happen. Don’t ignore your
serendipities. Synchronous events are messages from your soul to pay attention.
And not just to pay attention, but observe closely, and pray about them, and then,
act.
In the Spirit,
Jane
