Human
Born
“Of all
the things that exist,
we breathe
and wake and turn it into song.”
Mark Nepo
(The Book of Awakening, p.1)
New Year's Day—2018. We
are almost at the end of the second decade of the twenty-first
century! Who can believe it! And, at this moment in our existence, we
have created both the best of all worlds, and the worst of all
worlds. We humans are the only living creatures on planet earth with
that capacity. We can use our hands and our brains to help or to
hinder; we can free the oppressed or we can incarcerate them; we can
use our incredible technology to benefit the whole planet, or to
destroy it. What unbelievable power we yield.
Is that power guided by
love? Some of it is. The way, it seems to me, to access that guidance
is through gratitude. It is a privilege to be born into a human
lifetime. It is a gift beyond measure. And not only born human, but
born on a planet that is magnificent in its beauty and bounty. We
have an opportunity, and a responsibility, to use the time we are
here, however long or brief it may be, to contribute to the growth of
human consciousness.
To that end, I hope that
this new year will be one of growing awareness of what is the next
step, the next best thing, the next positive act that you and I can
do to support human evolution. Never underestimate the power of one
voice, one word, or one deliberate act of kindness to impact the
whole world.
In the Spirit,
Jane
