This
Too Shall Pass
“No
matter how dark the night, somehow the sun rises once again and all
the shadows are chased away.”
David
Matthew
From time to time, I am
invited to spend a weekend with friends at their lake house. It is
such a gift! Waking to the pale blue sky reflected in water, and the
sound of loon song is next door neighbor to heaven for me. It's
almost impossible to be melancholy when surrounded by so much beauty.
When I am sad, or tired, or burned out, this is the antidote.
Watching ripples on the water lulls me into silence, and there my
soul and body recover.
When we're going through
hard times, it's easy to believe the sun will never shine again. When
all we see around us is dark and darker still, we lose faith that
the night will make its inexorable journey into morning. “This too
shall pass away,” ancient wisdom of the great Sufi poets, is worth
repeating. Also, the words of St. Teresa of Avila, “Let nothing
perturb you, nothing frighten you. All things pass. God does not
change.” Words of reassurance in dark times.
I know several souls who
are walking in the shadow-lands right now. If you are too, hold firm,
but do not hunker down to wait for the light. Make peace with the
darkness; at least half our lives are spent there. Take yourself out
to a place of beauty and allow it to sooth you. This too shall pass.
In the Spirit,
Jane
