Revolution
“You
say you want a revolution
Well,
you know
We
all want to change the world...”
The
Beatles (“Revolution”)
Boy,
oh boy! Revolution is in the air of planet Earth. We humans have
finally hit critical mass in which the imbalances have caught up with
us. The old order is changing, no doubt about it. The question
remains, which direction will that change take?
Change
is never predictable. We may think someone who is clearly different
in tone and attitude will be a natural leader, a savior really, but
that is often a mistake we realize only after the fact.
“...But
when you want money
for
people with minds that hate
all
I can tell is brother you'll have to wait...”
Here's
a strong indicator of a good leader: They don't have minds that hate.
Simple enough, right? If someone is spewing hatred, misogyny, racism,
or self-righteousness, they're probably in this for themselves and
not for their people.
Here's
another indicator: They care. They care about everybody—the rich,
the poor, the black, white, Latino, the refugee, the Christian, Jew,
Muslim, Hindu, atheist, male or female, old or young. And, they care
about them equally. They care that the water in Michigan is poisoning
children, and the bombs dropping in Syria are killing children, the mosquitoes in Brazil are crippling children, and the schools in
Detroit are crumbling around children and growing black mold. They care about children—all
children. And, they care enough to do something besides talk.
The
revolution is happening, all right. Hopefully it's happening in the
hearts of humanity. And hopefully it's going in the direction of
equality, concern, compassion, and most of all, action.
In
the Spirit,
Jane
