Transformation

Called to Service

The inner work of personal transformation is not about personal healing for the sake of personal healing alone but to ultimately become someone prepared to take that healing to others, to become a channel of grace in the world. Together we become the new spiritual communities—a global 'inner net'--bonded with collective intention devoted to uniting acts of light, generosity and humanity. This is what it means to be 'called to spiritual service' in the world today.”
Caroline Myss (Caroline's Blog; “Paris”)

We always see the events of the world in hindsight with more comprehension than we can bring to what is happening in the moment. We in the West are stunned by the explosion of events in Paris even though terrorism has long since struck at the heart of many other places—Beirut, Libya, Mali, Yemen, Somalia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria and on and on. Until the streets of Paris erupted in explosions and gunfire, we did not “get our feet up under us,” as my grandmother would say.

In the face of all the murder and mayhem on both sides of a great divide, much finger pointing and accusation is taking the place of substantive response. Our political and religious leaders and institutions have been of little help, and in fact, have fueled the fires of animosity and hatred. It is time for a new approach to the world.

We humans overestimate the strength of guns and bombs and underestimate the power of human light and energy. We can become, as Caroline Myss suggests, “a global 'inner net' bonded with intention devoted to uniting acts of light, generosity, and humanity.” We can advocate for acts of the heart—for supporting and caring for one another—not just our neighbors, not just our friends and families, but the people we don't know, the refugees and the strangers.

Love is the only thing that can transform the world in which we live. Our governments are charged with protecting us, and their only weapons are guns and tanks. We are the ones with arms and hearts, and we are the ones who must gather all our spiritual powers and channel them into healing. If all of us were praying for positive solutions, instead of blaming and shaming, if our collective energy were focused on creating peace, there is no power on Earth that could overcome us. Let us unite in becoming a “channel of grace.”
