Gifts are for sharing.

Gifts

If you're talented at music, that talent is of God. If something makes your heart sing, that's God's way of telling you it's a contribution [God] wants you to make. Sharing our gifts is what makes us happy. We are most powerful, and God's power is most apparent on the earth when we're happy.”
Marianne Williamson (A Return to Love)

Is there something you can do that makes you happy? A gift that you have that feels like play to you, and as soon as you think of doing it, you smile? Maybe it's making music or singing, maybe organizing and arranging, perhaps it's drawing a picture or turning a piece of wood 'til it's smooth as silk. I know a young man who draws great pictures of zombies and dragons and all manner of mythical critter. You can watch his face light up, and his smile spread across it when he's showing you his work. That's a gift! He's done nothing thus far to share it with the world because he lacks confidence that anyone else would enjoy it as much as he does. I am encouraging him to have tee shirts made with his drawings on the front and just see what happens.

Now you may wonder how on earth zombies and dragons could be a gift to the earth—I certainly wonder that sometimes, too. But it's not up to me, and I have seen the total pleasure he gets from his art. God doesn't always ask me what I think about a gift given to another; in fact I sometimes get the feeling that God doesn't care about my opinion at all. God has God's reasons, and that's all I need to know.

The things in your life that give you most pleasure are usually ones that involve you in a creative process. God is a creative process, so when you are creating something with your own hands, and investing your whole presence into it, you are connecting directly to the ultimate Creator. Your gifts are important, not just to you, but to the world at large. Be sure to share them.
