Time
Flies
“How
did it get so late so soon?
It's
night before it's afternoon.
December
is here before it's June.
My
goodness how the time has flewn.
How
did it get so late so soon?”
Dr.
Seuss
So
here we are at the end of another the year. Twenty-fourteen is fading
into the sunset like John Wayne and his horse at movie's end. We can
wrap it up in tissue paper with our ornaments and pack it into the
attic of our memory. I wonder whether you are able to review your
year better than I. I have to take down the calendar and page by page
see what happened when.
Year
end reviews are one way to realize how life intervenes in the best
laid plans. If we go back now and look at our new year's resolutions
from January, 2014, most of us will scoff at their naivety. So many
demanding things come splashing into our days without invitation.
Rarely do we achieve the things on our list. I'm speaking for myself,
of course. I'm easily distracted.
Still
it's good to look back. What's clear is that we accomplished things
we never intended; things that some unseen hand guided us toward, and
insisted we do. Life has its way with us, even when we are motivated
in the opposite direction. Often we come to understand that the time
was not right to do what we had planned, and something inside us knew
that. And sometimes, it is as though Zeus himself threw a thunderbolt
into our path to stop us. Either way, I believe we can trust life and
our inner compass to direct us. It may not be where our fine and
competent brain wants to go, but it is where our soul has business
that needs attention.
In
the Spirit,
Jane
