Happenstance
“The
older you get, the more you realize how happenstance...has helped
determine your path through life.” Rowan Atkinson
In
our goal driven lives, we don't give much credence to happenstance.
In fact, we try our best to disallow much in the way of serendipity
and chance, preferring instead to be the undisputed captain of our
own ship. But in this life, stuff happens. Chance accidents,
unplanned meetings, wrong turns have a way of steering us off course.
Sometimes, we're rolling along the carefully designed route, happy as
can be, thinking everything is going according to plan, when, without
explanation, the road simply ends. What now? The idea of turning
around and going back in the direction from which we came is anathema
to most of us, as is heading off into uncharted territory.
We
very often forget the fate gets a vote in our carefully constructed
lives. Dare I say, God has a plan that supersedes our own, and when
we're off course, God will stop us cold. Our very own angels will
slam doors in our faces, close down our enterprising engines and
bring us to our knees if necessary. It is well to ask the advice of
our higher powers every step of the way if we don't like surprises,
blind alleys or dark and stormy nights. Sometimes, we find ourselves
placed in situations not of our choosing, that present possibilities
we've never imagined, and find that serendipity has opened an unseen
door. Best to say, “Yes, Ma'am, let's see what you require of me,”
and then, humbly walk through it.
In
the Spirit,
Jane
