Save
the World
“Personal
transformation can and does have global effects. As we go, so goes
the world, for the world is us. The revolution that will save the
world is ultimately a personal one.” Marianne Williamson
Marianne
Williamson has been writing and speaking about love and compassion
for several decades now. Her message has not changed. Personal
transformation is essential at this time. We must move in the
direction of life if we want to survive on this planet, and that
movement requires a shift in consciousness from believing that the
problems of this world belong to governments and powers, to
understanding that it is the responsibility of every human being.
We
discussed one of her videos in Spirituality Class yesterday. In it
she traces the direction of the cosmos toward life—seed, to
bud, to flower, to fruit, acorn to oak tree, sperm and egg to the
fully developed human being. The movement is always toward
fulfillment of life. When we move against life, any life, we are
going against the natural flow of the cosmos. When we perpetuate war
and poverty, we are moving in the direction of death and not life.
My
first response is always, “What can I possibly do?” After all,
I'm just one person in this sea of humanity. I can't change the
forces that want to war with one another, that want power and control
in order to dominate. What chance do I have of changing that? The
answer is, and has always been, I can do what I can do in the service
of life. I can write this blog to you. I can teach others about love
and tolerance. I can continue to work on myself so that I do not
operate from anger and revenge, but from mercy and compassion. That's
all I can do—all any of us can do—but it's enough. As Williamson
says, “The revolution that will save the world is ultimately a
personal one.”
In
the Spirit,
Jane
