Scan
the Heavens
“We
are born at a given moment, in a given place and, like vintage years
of wine, we have the qualities of the year and of the season of which
we are born. Astrology does not lay claim to anything more.” Carl
Jung
Are
you a star watcher? When you walk out your door, do you notice the
sky, whether there are clouds, what kind, and how fast they are
moving? Do you pay attention to sunsets and sunrises, to the colors
or lack of colors? “I am not a believer in astrology,” you may
say, but are you aware of your connection to your world?
Back
when I was married, we spent part of almost every summer on Block
Island, where my husband's family owned an old sea captain's house.
On clear summer nights, we would lie in the grass and look up—the
Milky Way spread across the entire dome of the sky, from the horizon,
as far as the eye could see. It was a spectacular sight. Looking at
it, one might get both a sense of just how small we are and, at the
same time, how connected we are to all of creation. The Milky Way is
like a star-studded blanket thrown across the world to keep it warm.
Born
in September, I am a Virgo—quiet, introverted, good at
understanding human nature, effective at helping people solve their
problems, rational, reliable, but also, critical, judgmental, a perfectionist, plain spoken, detail oriented, and determined to get
to the bottom of things. There couldn't be a better description of
me, and it came right off a randomly chosen astrological website.
Taking a look at the traits of your astrological sign is one more way
of realizing both your common roots within human society, and your
particularity. We are unique, yet more alike than different. Paradox
is the nature of the universe.
Today,
when you go outside to get into your car, scan the heavens. Be aware
of the universe of which you are a part. Allow the beauty and the
majesty of creation to extend to and through you.
In
the Spirit,
Jane
