Waiting for Clarity

Conspiracy Theories

What you seek is seeking you.” Rumi

There's an old Bob James jazz CD called “Restless” that I like to play now and then. It well expresses the feelings I have when I've finished one project and have not yet started another. I don't go around with ideas full blown for future projects; I have to wait until they “surface,” so to speak. While I'm waiting, there is a feeling inside me that can only be described as “itchy.” Something hovers at the back of my mind, but cannot be forced. It operates at its own pace in its own time, and for a while, we play hide and seek—I'll catch a glimpse, but when I try to grab hold, it vanishes. Reminds me of the mists that hang in the mountain gorges; when you see them at a distance, they appear as solid as the landscape around them, but when you get to them, they are all but invisible.

It was Emerson who first said, “Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.” The work is in making a firm decision and commuting to it. At that point, you, your guardian angel, your friends, your family (sometimes), and even people you don't know, will begin, mysteriously, to nudge you in the direction of your vision. You will see the image of what you seek popping up all around you, and suddenly it is as though you knew your deepest desire all along. I'm sure there is a physical law that governs such harmonious events, but being a math-idiot, I wouldn't know what it is. Or perhaps the governing law is a spiritual one.

I like to think that this itchy restlessness comes directly from my soul. It knows what creative work comes next, but my human-self is slower and less clear. My soul has to allow time for the rest of me to catch up. I wonder about you. Are your 'next steps' always clear? Have you experienced synchronicity in action? Is the universe conspiring to make something happen in your life?
