The
World is You
“We
don't observe or create the world as if it were an object, we are in
some sense this very world.”
Larry
Dossey, M.D. (Healing Words)
I
recently learned that a friend of mine has cancer—lymphoma. He is
in the midst of chemotherapy. This man is, as many of us are, quietly
independent. He has lived the lifestyle of a serious artist, who
never thinks of doing anything but his art even though making a
living is difficult at times. Just six months ago, he buried his best
friend who also had cancer. My friend is calmly facing his prognosis
but when I said that I would keep him and his family in my prayers,
he nicely declined. In essence, he said while he believes in
universal consciousness and the providence and essential goodness of that universe, he does not believe in 'a God who answers prayers.'
And
yet, those of us who are pray-ers by nature, know the power of prayer
to change things—even if the only thing that changes is us. Suppose
the universe that my friend speaks of is interconnected
energetically; that all things and beings in creation are part of one
gigantic whole. When positive energy enters the network and is
focused on one entity, it can indeed affect that entity even at great
distance. An image that has been used to describe this network is a
web—like a spider's web. When you touch any part of it, the whole
web responds. When lots of people send positive energy into the web,
it is changed for the better—imagine it gleaming all around the
focus of that energy. What changes when we pray for another person or
situation? We do. We radiate positive, benign energy. We come away
with a peaceful heart, a kinder, gentler spirit.
Whether
you believe in “a god who answers prayers” or not, believe in the
power of positive energy to realign the atomic particles of which we,
and everything else in the universe, are created. If there is someone
you care about who faces a life threatening disease or a very
difficult situation, hold them in your thoughts; surround them with
the light of compassion, ask for whatever is in their highest good.
Expect your energy to change things—not necessarily the
life-expectancy of your friend, but the piece of the web that is you.
If enough of us radiate prayerful energy, everything in our world
will change.
In
the spirit,
Jane
