Seeking
Truth
“...You
must seek in order to discover the Spirit and Truth and must continue
seeking until you realize the Spirit indwelling you and know the
Truth in your own experience. Each individual must seek and strive to
discover it and so engage in the Divine labor of salvation of one's
own soul, that is to say, the awakening and liberation of one's soul
in conscious union with God.”
Tau
Malachi (The Gnostic Gospel of Thomas; Verse 2)
At
the Jungian seminar on Saturday, titled “Breaking the Rules of
Love,” my small group had a vigorous discussion about whether or
not there is ultimate truth. This is the sort of philosophical banter
we humans love and value. We are infatuated with our own words, opinions and
ideas—especially those of us fortunate enough to have gone to
college, who need to demonstrate our command of the language. Truth
be told, we probably wouldn't recognize ultimate truth if it walked
over top of us—particularly in the realm of spirituality. Ultimate
truth, if such exists, is so alien to us as to be Martian in its
structure. Words cannot describe it, nor intellect understand it.
Discovering
the sublime is not a matter of reading the right books, or studying
in the great halls of academia, nor will our
thinking alone uncover it. It must be experienced. We must leave the window open
and it will come of its own volition. The Holy Grail is not a
physical object, but an open heart and a mind awake to the mystery.
Finding truth is more a matter of stripping away all our
preconceptions, opinions, and expectations and allowing Spirit to
fill the gaps. Our seeking is silent, so that our words do not
obscure. Our mind is quiet, not grasping at every thought or image.
Simplicity is the key that opens the door. Grace the one who greets
us.
In
the spirit,
Jane
