Endurance
“Wondrous
is the strength of cheerfulness, and its power of endurance—the
cheerful [person] will do more in the same time, will do it better,
will preserve it longer, than the sad or sullen.”
Thomas
Carlyle
As
we come into the home stretch of the presidential election let us
give thanks that it is almost over. However the vote goes, whoever
wins, this has been an endurance contest for the American people. We
have watched as our economy staggered, then went on life support, our
resources declined and our costs escalated. Instead of working
together in the best interest of the people, our elected leaders
battled one another like elementary school thugs. There seems to be
no resolution, and no concern among the chosen about how their
behavior affects people out here in the real world. It's enough to
make you sick.
When
it's over and the dust settles, let us resolve to work together. Let
us dust off the grit and grime that has been slung indiscriminately
for two years. Let each person do what he/she can to make this world
better at least in the little sphere of our own influence. Let us
wipe the anger from our faces and the vitriol from our words and get
back to making this land of ours United, as it is meant to be. If our
leaders can't do it, at least we the people can set an example.
America
is only as great as its people. When we are at war with one another,
we cannot apply our energy to the tasks that so desperately need our
attention. However the election goes, let us resolve to set aside our
differences and get on with the business of life.
In
the spirit,
Jane
